Network MagicÆs Network Alert Center gives you up-to-the-minute status of the security of each computer on your network. Using this feature, youÆll know if there are any intruders on your network, and if any of the computers running Network Magic on your network are not adequately protected with antivirus or firewall software or the most recent version of Windows Update.
Network MagicÆs Network Alert Scan runs in the background every two seconds and automatically detects and classifies security threats on each computer and your network as Critical or Urgent.
Network Magic shows you the security status of each of the computers in your network by showing the appropriate shield on each computer in the map.

Meaning |
|
Critical alert. This alert requires immediate attention as your network security may be compromised. |
|
Urgent alert. This alert tells you about something you should be aware of. |
|
No alerts. Note that this may mean you have alerts, but have chosen to ignore them. |
When there is one or more Critical or Urgent alerts on any of the computers in the network, or if there is an intruder on your network, or your network is unprotected, the Health and Security Services panel in the upper right corner of Network Magic will show you the appropriate alert shield, indicate the alert status, and tell you how many alerts there are on your network. For instance, if you don't have antivirus software on one of the computers in your network, a Critical alert will display on the computer as well as in the Health and Security Services panel.
Click View health
and security alerts in the Health
and Security Services panel to view all of the alerts in the Network
Alert Center. The Network Alert Center lists each alert and which computer
the alert is for.
To learn more about an alert and what to do about it, click the blue
text to the right of each alert. This will then tell you what you need
to do in order to clear the alert and make it go away. In some cases,
you will need to go to the computer that has the security issue in order
to fix it; in others, Network Magic will automatically fix it for you.
To view alerts for an individual computer, click that computer in the Network Map and then click on the Alerts tab within the Properties panel to the right of the Network Map. On this tab you can see the specific alerts for that computer, and take steps to resolve those alerts.
If there are intruders on your network, Network Alert Center uses the Wireless Protection Center to kick those intruders off the network. For more information, see Using the Wireless Protection Center.
You can ignore all alerts for a specific computer so that they do not appear in Network Magic.
Click the computer which has the alerts, then
click the Alerts tab in the Properties panel to the right of the
Network Map. In the Alerts tab, click Hide
alerts.
This hides the alerts in Network Magic, showing no alerts for that computer
and removing the alert shield from that computer. You can always view
alerts again by clicking the computer and then clicking Show
alerts in the Alerts tab.
Note that since computers which have all alerts hidden have no shield,
you can easily identify these in the Network Map if you need to.
You may also have the option to ignore a specific alert. To do this, view
the alert; in most cases, youÆll have the option to either fix or ignore
the alert.
The Network Alert Scan runs automatically in the background and continually analyzes the security status of your network. To trigger an immediate scan of your network, click View health and security alerts in the Health and Security Services panel and click Scan now. Note that if alerts are hidden for a particular computer, they will remain hidden after this scan.
The Network Alert Center monitors the following security issues on your network:
The presence and status of antivirus software on each computer in your network
The presence and status of a software firewall on each computer in your network
The status of Microsoft Windows security updates on each computer in your network
The version of Network Magic on each computer in your network. For Network Alert Center to work properly, it is important that you keep each computer up-to-date with the latest version of Network Magic.
The presence of intruders on your network
The status of your wireless network's security
When possible, you can see name and version information for antivirus, firewall, and Windows Update software on each computer:
Click a computer in the Network Map, then click the Alerts tab. YouÆll see whether antivirus, firewall, and Windows Update software is installed and up-to-date. Click Details to see (when possible) the product name, version number, vendor name, and company support contact information.
You must be running Windows XP Service Pack 2 on each computer in order to detect and view network alerts on that computer.
Network Magic detects and communicates the status of most all major third-party antivirus and firewall products. If one of your products is not detected, and you would like Network Magic to monitor it, please send email to info@purenetworks.com.
